WELLSTAR COMPLAINTS

On July 19, 2008, I was rushed by a friend to the Emergency Room at Wellstar (HellStar) Kennestone (WealthStone) Hospital. I had mistakenly been given an antihistamine (which I am allergic to) that aggravated my enlarged prostate and locked my kidneys.

After waiting in the Emergency Room at Kennestone (WealthStone) for approximately FOUR hours I finally saw a doctor, a Foley Catheter was inserted, I was given a shot of morphine (4MG) and 650MG Tylenol, IV was inserted and I admitted to the hospital for what they said was a bladder infection (6:15). At the time of admission; my pulmonary sounds were normal, equal, and clear with no wheezing according to hospital records.

I was transferred to a room on the seventh floor Green where I was given another shot of Dilaudid (1.5MG @ 8:00), Dilaudid (2MG @ 8:30PM), Restoril (30MG @ 8:00PM) and Dilaudid (3MG @ 10:00PM).

At 11:00 PM my family informed the nurse that I was not breathing normally. The nurse on call told my family, it was normal breathing for someone with sleep apnea (I have sleep apnea). For 45 minutes my family pleaded with the nurse to do something about my unresponsiveness and breathing. They were ignored until 11:45 when my family began screaming in my room. I was coded and rushed to Cardiology ICU for Acute Respiratory Failure, secondary to narcotics. The pulmonary doctor on call at Kennestone (WealthStone) stated that I was near death on arrival.

While recovering in ICU (Went to hospital for enlarged prostrate) I was given an IV bag with another patients name on the bag. When my family asked about the bag, the nurses comment was, “It happens all the time but I assure you it is the right medicine.”

Computers at Kennestone (WealthStone) were down the night I was admitted and the next day. My blood work was lost and had to be redone. I was moved to another room on another floor and I asked for lunch that I never received. (This happened twice) I was not provided with a pillow or clean sheets until the second day in that room. I had also asked twice for a clean gown and was not given one until last day there. I was given a heart monitor around my neck and went through 6 of them until one finally worked.

I was informed during my stay that I had damage to my heart from the stress of the night of July 19, 2008.I was told my cardio enzymes were high, potassium low, electrolytes low and calcium low. I went through several tests during my stay. The terms used by the doctors were, Acute Respiratory Failure secondary to narcotics, Respiratory Failure likely to narcotics, Respiratory Arrest secondary to over medications, Respiratory Depression secondary to narcotics.

Wellstar (HellStar) Kennestone (WealthStone) Hospital has concluded that I received the best medical care available and their staff and hospital had reasons for all of the above-mentioned faults.

They obviously over medicated me and would have let me die in that room on the seventh floor if my family had not been there to scream for help. I have not been the same since.

It seems quite apparent that the medical treatment that I received on July 19, 2008 to July 23, 2008, fell well below the “standard of care” that I should have received from Wellstar (HellStar) Kennestone (WealthStone) Hospital.

  1. I also had a problem in february 2008 with kennestone hospital, I went to the emergency room for my appendix and was given to many drugs and they had to rush me to icu for treatment, I was in the hospital for over ten day, thought I was going to die. When I got out of the hospital I contacted an attorney and they told me that because of the new law that governor purdue had signed into effect that it would cost about 150 thousand dollars just to initiate the lawsuit. because of the requirement to have a doctor’s affidavit attached to the lawsuit when filed. that the only way they would take my case would be if I had permanent injury or had died. good luck, remember you only have two years to file a lawsuit.

    1. Can you contact me regarding how you learned of the listed drugs Hellsar gave you? I wonder if they didn't use Rupinol. Did you seek legal help for your "poor standard of care"? I was there (against my directiins to ambulance), hallucinated on meds by injection and/or mouth while there, billed for a procedure I never presented with, and allegedly given a "needed procedure" to my lower spine, battered by a tech, and not treated for transverse myelitis vs. An alleged break in my spine @ L1&2. I then could not walk and have been in constant pain without meds (got attack of TM before I could enroll in Part B, so I had no Part B Ins. nor a "primary scare physician)...I am screwed. Cant obtain medical care for misdiagnosis/treatment, due to battery by one of their female techs between March 18 & April 27. CDC diagnosed me at another hospital, and for all I know, they mischarged me for profit, damaged my person (I can't do much; can't sit, walk short periods - I am not the same person...may be damaged for life, and the Sonny Perdues and
our corrupt legal system profit while this hospital "thrives". It is a poor loser country run by wealthy losers! No legal US citizen should be denied
medical help without Part B Medicare. Do felons or Gitmo detainees have Part B? I doubt it, but we pay for them while we are ignored. The system's broken. L.

    2. December 12,2017 my dad was rushed to the ER; the following day transferred to Green 730 (semi-private room). The head nurse on the floor asked a peculiar question as he was admitted to his new room: how do you learn? Really? Doesn't this seem out of the realm for a AMA Nurse to question a family member?
Wednesday night I made the mistake leaving my dad while he was sleeping to head home and tend to my dog catching some sleep. The following morning I arrive to find my dad in a restraint jacket with his bandages iv's dangling loose from his arm, dehydrated and his food and water out of his reach. To top it all off the AMA system at Kennestone had a paid observer sitting at the end of his bed. (Seriously!)
The head nurse who asked me how I learn had typed in my emergency contact information; however, I was not notified of any issues! I was livid upon seeing my 89 year old father in this condition, as one might imagine. DO NOT TRUST ANYONE WITHIN THE SYSTEN THEY WILL NEGLECT YOUR LOVED ONES AND MAKE MISTAKES! I do not know what medications he was given if any or who's RX while I was not present in his room! So frustrating to learn the system is flawed to the extreme!

    3. In response to your ridiculous post...... WELLSTAR does not supply restraint jackets so that was a blatant lie, also if there was a sitter at the bedside then your loved one DID NOT have food and water out of reach for the sitter will help your loved one with eating and drinking when asked for. In response to your question on why the nurse asked how you learn... "How does the primary learner prefer to learn new concepts?" This is what we ask when we file patient learning assessments.

      Delete
    4. Your statement about restraint jackets is true, but Wellstar DOES use various forms of restraints. They are usually placed on the person by security and Wellstar security is known for placing restraints on a patient without much provocation and just because a nurse asks for it. The person writing the complaint most likely was referring to one of these types of restraints and did not mean an actual "jacket". Even if they did mean "jacket" it does not change the fact that their loved one was treated badly at a Wellstar facility. Bad treatment, overbilling, double billing and other criminal offenses are not unusual at ANY Wellstar facility. In fact it is standard operating procedure until they get caught and it costs them money from a lawsuit.

    1. In late March 2017 I was taken against my request to Kennestone Hospital for what I later discovered was transverse meylitis...an infection penetrating my spinal cord, causing me to have a hundred & 3 degree fever for 3-4 days and a lack of mobility, causing me to fall in my home. I had balance 1 second, none the next. I was over-medicated and halucinated...something I've never experienced...and in & out of sleep. 2 things of more urgency: Kennestone billed me (& an MD) for a kidneystone I never had, and a Jr.SFemale Staffer literally rolled me off an MRI table onto a hard surface because, as I heard her say as she looked at me with disgust, I don't have time for you to wake up"....I. Was helped up by a young boy whose facial appearance was that of horror when the girl thew me on my back, on a hard surface, after having a khytoplasty. I have been unable to sit or stand, can't get medical treatment of any kind because I lacked Part B of my Medicare Plan. Due to the timing of the infection that attacked my spine, I missed the "open period" to sign up by 03-31-17. No PCP under Part B, no dr. Will order an xray, (as I asked for at Kennestone but did not receive), or pain medication. I cry every day the pain is so unbelievable. I can not find legal help when I can't sit for more than 5 minutes. No U.S. born person in this country should be denied access to medical care or demand a hospital fix whom it has mistreated or over-billed for false procedures.Must I commit a crime or be here illegally to obtain medical care? No, just be a politician or a felon or enter this country illegally. That's all I guess. I've been so stressed and have taken so many
NSAIDS for pain, my hair is thinning. This has been a nightmare of epic proportions and I'll never be the same person I was. More annoying is that the ambulance service I requested take me to Cobb West hospital, much closer than Kennestone, despite my distinct requests NOT TO BE DRIVEN TO KENNESTONE, took me to Kennestone nonetheless. It appears there is something going on with that ambulance service & Kennestone Hospital..."just saying". Thank you

Seven victims of sexual assault by employees of Wellstar Kennestone Hospital have filed suit against the Hospital and the employees in Cobb County State Court. Six of the victims were patients at the Hospital at the time of the assaults. The seventh victim was visiting the hospital to take care of her mother who had just passed away while a patient at the hospital.

The three employees of the Hospital that are defendants in this lawsuit are: Eugene Ellis, a respiratory therapist; Rafael Telles, an orderly; and Eric Robinson, an x-ray technician. Eugene Ellis and Rafael Telles have been arrested by the Cobb County Police Department and are no longer employed at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Eric Robinson was not arrested and his employment status is unknown.

Four of the plaintiffs in this lawsuit were assaulted by Eugene Ellis, a respiratory therapist at the Hospital. A total of seven persons told Cobb County police about sexual assaults against them by Mr. Ellis, and Ellis was arrested and charged by police with sexual assault and battery against 5 victims. He was not charged in the other two incidents because they were verbal in nature only. Mr. Ellis is currently awaiting trial in the Superior Court of Cobb County. The incidents reported against Eugene Ellis took place in 2006 and 2007.

Two of the plaintiffs in this lawsuit were assaulted by Rafael Telles, an orderly at Kennestone Hospital. A total of four persons told Cobb County police about sexual assaults against them by Mr. Telles, and Telles was arrested and charged by police with sexual assault and battery against all four victims. The status of any arrests or criminal case against Telles is unknown at this time. The incidents reported against Rafael Telles all took place between June 23-26, 2008. All four victims were patients at the Women's Center at Kennestone Hospital at the time of the assaults.

The other plaintiff in this lawsuit was assaulted by Eric Robinson, an x-ray technician at Kennestone Hospital. The assault occurred on December 7, 2005. No other complaints against Robinson are known at this time. He was not arrested or charged by the Cobb County Police Department.

Glenn Loewenthal, an Atlanta attorney representing the plaintiffs, said "If this were an isolated incident of one rogue employee, it would be one thing. However, we are talking about 12 known reports of sexual assaults against three different hospital employees, all within less than three years. That suggests to me that Kennestone Hospital has been negligent in protecting its patients and even visitors from their employees. Whether they have been negligent in their hiring practices, their supervision of employees or have inadequate policies in place remains to be seen. But something is obviously wrong over at the hospital and we intend to find out why these victims were not adequately protected. If nothing else, perhaps this lawsuit will prevent future patients and visitors of the Hospital from being assaulted."

Mr. Loewenthal added "We are confident that there are more victims of assaults by these employees out there. It is unlikely that every victim has come forward. We would urge any other victims to come forward and report the assaults to us or the Cobb County Police Department."

Other attorneys representing the plaintiffs include Robert Lamb of Cartersville and James Kytle of Atlanta and Seattle. "It is the duty of a hospital to keep our loved ones safe at times when they are most helpless. If Cobb County citizens can't feel safe recovering in our hospital, its time to take action so this can never happen again".

    1. I was admitted against my will to Kennestine Hospital on 03-18-2017. I asked ambulance service to take me to Cobb West hospital, closer to my residence vs. Kennestone. I was, in a nutshell, over-medicated, misdiagnosed, charged and/or tteatrd for a kidney stone...which I never presented with, and told I needed a procedure (kyphoplasty?), and I wasn't properly informed or told why I needed this procedure. On an MRI table after this "needed procedure",I was coming out of anesthesia when a female tech told me: "I can't wait for you to wake-up", where upon she threw me off the MRI table (from my stomach onto my back) on a hard surface, battering my person.I asked for a follow-up Xray and her name & the name of the startled young man who helped me back to my room, but it never happened. I was drugged and hallucinated. I believe my spine WAS injured when I was battered by the hospital employee. I dont have Part B yet, and no PCP WILL TOUCH ME.I WROTE KENNESTONE. They replied months later "they" reviewed my complaint and felt they did meet "a proper standard of care..." Must I be a non-American or terrorist to obtain any follow-up treatment? It's horrible and I'm forever changed by this alleged hospital. There 1st priority is to their financial enrichment at patient peril. L

    2. I submitted the last entry after which I requested, a second time, my medical records. Almost 1 month later I was sent almost 1,500 pages of records for 11 days, starting 03-18-17. I discovered in the records that upon admission, furious that I was mis-directed to Kennestone against my will & instructions, I was given anti-psychotics, fentanyl, hydrocodone, morphine & propofol...to mention a few. All this within 12-16 hours. They immediately rushed me into surgery, claiming I had an 8mm kidney stone. They claim that a stent was inserted on the 18th & removed on the 19th.Kennestone claimed they performed a kypoplasty on L1 & L2 vertebrae, but medical records state it was an "old compression fracture". What this hospital allege to have done to me while I was over-drugged & I hallucinated...is liken to rape of my person. In speaking to Medicare & Social Security each entity was startled as to why 11 days at Kennestone would produce 1,470+ pages. No wonder my 1st request was ignored!!! There are insetions in the first 10% of Kennestone's records of my stay that indicates I had concerns about my cats being left alone...and one comment I recall making was stated verbatim. I was recorded by a Dr. But never notified of this nor did I give such permission. I'd prefer to pass away rather than ever require a Wellstar Hospital, eeespecially to Kennestone! I was later diagnosed by Grady & the CDC with transverse myelitis. Interestingly, i was given some anti-biotics that would treat MS...my condition is related to MS! I submit that this hospital could have treated my remaing symptoms in 1/2 the time without the need for dubious procedures. I am 1/2 the person I was and never presented with the pain they conveniently addressed.Yes, I did fall in my home. I hurt from bruises I sustained. I didn't have serious pain until this hospital took liberties with unauthorized procedures, except amongst their doctors, and then allowing a med. assistant to batter me after another alleged procedure from which I was just coming out of an unconscious state...not aware of my surroundings. This will haunt me the rest of my life. A nightmare!

  6. In 2003 I had been taken to Wellstar Kennestone 3 different times with possible heart problems. the first two time I was sent home. the third time in August I was admitted but was told all was OK and they could not find anything. On December 9th I had a medical procedure at another Atlanta Hospital and all went fine and they new about the problems from the past year. On December 10th my Dr. came in and told me I could go home on the 11th. That afternoon of the 10th I collapsed with Congestive Heart Failure and diagnosed with Severe Idiopathic Cardiomyopathy. If I had been anywhere else I would have died instantly. To this day I do not trust any Wellstar Facility. I have told ambulance companies that if they pick me up not to take me to their facilities and if they do I will sue them.

He took care of me. The staff comes into your room all day . Seems like every 5 minutes. Theres not enough time for him to fondle anyone.

  11. I went to Wellstar Cobb on the 22nd and 23 the reason why I went twice is to be give an injection to stabilize my pain. First, I was treated horribly the nurse was talking about me to the Doctor. The reason is because I have a pain management doctor but my current meds were bot helping because the meds I use I have been using for four years so body has built a tolerance level. The doctor said he was not giving me anything for my pain but a medcine called Tramadol which is like taking Tylenol. So if I am currently on 30mg of Oxycodone then obviously Tramadol is not going to work for me. They were treating me as if I were some druggy and I did not appreciate. The nurse and the doctor were both talking down on me which is not acceptable. They insisted on speaking to my doctor from Georgia Pain Clinic. They dont have the right to speak to my doctors but, since I have nothing to hide I gave them the number. Every time I go to this hospital I am treated horribly and it is not right. I feel as though I should be compensated for being treated like shit. I am not the type of person to call racism but in this case I would say they are racist, rude, inconsiderate, no bed side manner assholes. That is just being nice. Someone needs to step up to the plate and compensate me for being treated so badly.

    1. They might have demanded to talk to your pain doctor because of the contract you signed to receive treatment from them in their new patient packet. All pain management doctors require it. And there's a stipulation that you won't accept pain medication from anyone else without their knowledge and agreement. I've been to 3 different practices & they all have that contract. What's sad is when you're in pain, and no one will help because they're so jaded, treating you like a junkie while you're regressed to begging for their attention & help. But how do you put a price on that? The want for compensation monitarily without damages to establish an amount...

I have been treated like dog poop every time I have been there and it is just damn right wrong!!!!!!!!!!

The last time I was admitted with lactic acidosis and septicemia, irregular heart rhythm. The nurses falsified medical records, they were allowed to write thing that fever happened on the chart. I found this out by ordering my medical records after the fact and couldn't believe my eyes! I received no discharge planing and on all three discharges there were new medications prescribed that were never given to me. I was so sick I had to go on part time at work and ultimately was laid off. I ended up at Emory, had 4 surgical procedures, and they couldn't believe my problems were not addressed. I would like to sue them for all they put me through. Don't go there, you will die!

  18. My 22-year-old daughter was taken to WellStar Douglas by ambulance on Friday, November 4, 2011, after suffering a grand mal seizure at home, rendering her unresponsive. We arrived at the hospital at approximately 11:30 pm and remained there until after 5 am because they had no available beds or nurses in the ICU. At this time, my daughter was on a ventilator, heart monitor, and telemetry. She remained in the ICU unresponsive, sedated, until the following Thursday when they transferred her to the second floor. I went to visit her that Thursday following a procedure she had had and noticed that her blankets were in disarray and wrapped around her legs. Again, she is still on a ventilator and sedated. When I finally managed to untangle her legs from the sheets, what I found made me want to vomit. My daughter had soiled herself and it had basically dried on the sheets. Of course, I immediately approached the first person I saw and demanded someone change her sheets and gown. I was told her nurse was waiting on another patient and would be with me shortly. When her nurse finally came in after about 20 minutes, she told me she was going to get to it after she'd finished some other responsibilities she had that afternoon. It took her another 15-20 minutes before she finally gathered the supplies and was ready to clean her up. She then asked me if I wanted to step out of the room while she cleaned her up, and I, of course, said no. Not only did I not leave, I stood there and helped her to make sure it got done, correctly. Fast forward to Friday, 2nd floor. Again, my daughter had not been cleaned up and she was still unable to clean herself as she was still attached to tubes, catheters, etc. Plus, she was just barely 1 day from leaving the ICU. I asked the nurse (or maybe she was a medical assistant - can't be sure), if she had been cleaned up since she arrived to the floor. Once again I was told she was going to get to it as soon as she had finished up some other responsibilities. So, I asked for clean towels, sheets, and a gown and told her my daughter and I would do it ourselves, which we did. But, before we could start, I had to go back to the nurses’ station and ask for soap, which leads me to believe they had no intention of cleaning her up. Fast forward to Sunday night, still on the second floor. I visited her briefly on Saturday and all was well, other than she was ready to leave. I get a call Sunday night from the nurse manager telling me I needed to get to the hospital because my daughter was having trouble breathing. I get there and they are working on her and she's struggling to breathe. I asked if a doctor was coming and was told, "I'm not sure..." I was there for 3-plus hours and they checked her vitals once and did not administer any more medication my entire stay. All the while, my daughter has bloody froth coming from her nose and mouth, which they let sit there until it dried. Not to mention her room was an absolute pig pen with towels everywhere, gloves on the floor, trash cans full, hairs and stains on the toilet, and the floor looked like someone had walked on it with muddy shoes. I had a nurse summon the nurse manager, who ended up cleaning the room herself and asking someone to mop it. So, we're talking 3 times within a week that I HAD TO ASK someone to clean my daughter and her room. That is absolutely disgusting! My daughter has a severe autoimmune condition and is being subjected to filth while she is hospitalized at this facility. Now, I am no longer confused as to why we cannot keep the infections from her body. They’d just better hope she comes out of there alive and unscathed. FYI: Her health has been on a steady and fast-paced decline since her first hospitalization at this facility in April of this year.

    1. A relative of mine was admitted to the hospital numerous time during his last five years of life and you could sit in the room and watch the nurses spreading the germs -tape on the bed rail that everyone had touched and then applying it around across an open surgical wound, using dirty scissors that the patient happened to have in his bag, not washing hands when they entered the room, etc. This guy had MRSA and you'd have never known it from the way they were acting. One day I arrived to find him sitting in the hallway. When I asked why he was there, he said that his roommate had just just done the big one in his bed and nobody had been in to clean it up and he couldn't stand the smell. Our vet clinic is cleaner than that place.....

  19. To the comment made by the employee of Wellstar on June 6 2011, Spoken like a True Wellstar "professional". Like the rest of the so called profesionals working the hospital floors, your educational and vocational training, or lack thereof, are evident in your manners and responses to events occuring on your shifts.

    1. I also am a wellstar employee. I am old school and believe each patient should be treated the way I would want my family treated. I am not about to make excuses for the hospital. My intentions are to share a look on the other side. Waiting for hours and hours in the ER should not happen. Not having your room cleaned and linen changed daily should not happen. Medication errors should not happen....But, these times, they are a changing. I am old school where I believe everything should be patient centered. But in reality, the physicians and nurses have very little say in what goes on. Management, you know, the ones that make the $$$ and receive the big bonuses, they are the ones that dictate the rules such as only allowing one physician to be scheduled in the ER, deciding not to use license practical nurses to care for patients even though they are nurses, board licensed and many have decades of experience. It looks better if the hospital can boast they have a high precentage of nurses with a four year degree. It doesn't matter that they can barely speak english and are only interested in a paycheck. Until very recent, we had been instructed to only change the linen if soiled. Housekeeping's staff has been cut drasticly and it is the responsibilty of the nurse to empty the trash and remove the dirty linen from the patients room, along with removing the food trays. Whereas a few years ago the nurse patient ratio, though strained, was do-able, today a nurse is expected to take care of, medicate, draw blood, hang blood, provide treatments, educate and document on 10-15 patients, sometimes more and at times only one nursing assistant for the entire floor. Nurses are going home crying daily because it is no longer do-able. Todays healthcare is all based on status and unfortunately, providing enough staff and experienced staff with a heart for the patient is not how they reach the type of status important to management. Sometimes when you have been waiting close to an hour for your nurse to come in, she herself may have been trying to get in there for close to an hour, but was pulled in a thousand directions and just hasn't made it in there yet. If you see her sitting at the desk, don't immediately think she isn't doing her job. She is probably just getting a chance to sit down and document five hours of care, hasn't been to the bathroom, eaten or drank since coming on shift. With the up coming change in health care known as Obama Care, it is only going to get worse....as I stated earlier, these times they are a changing.

    2. My mother was in Kennestone in 2004 for a collapsed lung due to a procedure when she was diagnosed with lung cancer. During the 2 wks the aides were terrible - spoke little English. I was telling them she had not had a BM in several days and the girl thought I wanted a cup of coffee!!! Once and only once we left the room while Mom was on a bedside chair and the aide was going to change the bed. I came back and found Mom slumped over the chair, nearly on the floor with all those tubes and lines hanging out of her. I was livid. We never left her for even a minute after that. The hospital system makes loads of money, but they are too cheap to hire American workers at a decent wage so they bring in foreigners who work for less.

  20. I had Fusion Back Surgery at WellStar Cobb Hospital, everything was fine until recovery, apparently the Anesthesiologist didn't communicate to each other regarding a previous Brain Injury I had and my tolerance to certain sedatives as very low. Well, in recovery they had to resuscitate me twice, on the second go round, they informed my spouse I had passed then recanted their story. Ended up getting a copy of my Operative Report and they in-deed injected me with a cocktail that my Vascular Doctor said, "not to give me." In addition the nursing staff (night staff) on the Orthopedics ward is very unprofessional, and I'm a Retired Nurse and in my many years of practicing I've never seen such medical negligence at WellStar Cobb Hospital. I don't even deal with them anymore, I rather go to Piedmont or Northside Hospital.

Fumbling with the supposed events that occurred. Third. My dad is a Christian man and has a beautiful wife who he always adored. He didn't needto fondle anyone. And who would want to fondle those women anyways. Did you see how they looked. It's all about money. My dad is a great man of God and will always be. He will be out soon. God will see to it. The injustice will be corrected and all of you with your nasty comments need to look at the facts. Not hearsay or trumped up circumstancial evidence. Black man accused of touching a white lying woman. They've been blaming us for years and punishing us black men without solid evidence or even good witness accounts. We get the short end of the stick. But justice is coming. Free Free Ellis! Love you dad.;

  23. Cobb (wellstar), is the worst place imaginable to seek help. On March 4th, 2011 my brother was taken to this hospital around 7am, because his sugar had dropped. Prior to this date, a week before he was discharged with pneumonia. He got it during his stay in the hospital. Okay, around 2:30pm, a patient care tech dropped him. He passed away the next morning at 3:58am. I was there when this incident happened and they still refuses to do the incident report.

  25. There still are some exceptional nurses at Kennestone Hospital, most can be found in ICU/CCU. Unfortunately, we can only work with the resources we are given. Often understaffed and yes working in an unsafe environment that is beyond our control. Our complaints go unheard, it is all about the bottom line. It is a corrupt big business that doesn't invest in their employees (unless you are a doctor or part of upper management) it is a breakdown of the entire system but the blame is often put on the backs of the nursing staff. We do not have control over how long it takes the pharmacy to mix a medication despite the STAT med requests we send them. We have no control over the fact that the lab consistently looses bloodwork. We have no control over the computer system. We have no control over housekeeping cleaning rooms which is what they get paid for but often times the nurse ends up doing. No control over you getting your food, or the medications your doctor refuses to prescribe for you. I am sorry that we only have one nursing assistant trying to take care of 20 patients who need to be cleaned, fed, and cared for! I try my best to keep the doctor from killing you because they order medications you are allergic to or wrong meds or wrong dosages etc. I wish the general public knew what we are truely up against. When costs are cut it's not the upper management feeling the pain, they get their substantial pay raises and bonuses and perks. Our board of Trustees...their perks amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars for their "volunteer" work! It a damn shame you should be outraged but at the RIGHT people!

    2. People SHOULD be outraged! You are absolutely right, however people are content with the "WalMart" model for business. So, it's no surprise to get poor customer service and more...We've ALLOWED this when the Walmart model of business moved in and obliterated many small business owners (with integrity & ethics)
Consumers need to raise the bar HIGH! Stop shopping at WalMart where you'll NEVER get a "Thank you" from employees when you've just spent how much money there? I don't care if it's $1.00 a THANK YOU is necessary! Raise your STANDARDS! Expect a Thank you from EVERY business where you spend money. When we don't get the simple...LOOK what we end up with. Don't kid yourself! Whose wages have increased in the past 5 years? The WalMart model has trickled down and drowned out many sound business practices; hospitals are only one casualty they USED to uphold high standards of care~ This place is another footprint of the WalMart variety, favoring cheap, untrained, unprofessional, labor where no employee will stay for long, pay is poor/tools necessary are inaccessible. Management lacks setting standard, therefore they are unaware of how truely ineffective and dangerous they are until...a REAL issue arises.
People, END the practice of giving money to businesses that pay OVER the TOP more salary to CEO than to the real laborers.

Another lie my medical record states that I had traces of Marijuana in my system I have not smoked that drug since I was 14 I am now 40. Hellstar is cheating Senior Citizens by refusing to readmit within the 30 day limit, putting them in "observation rooms" and sticking them with the bills because Medicare won't pay for the hospital's attempt to avoid readmitting and facing the fines for not taking proper care of the patient during the first admit.

  29. I was at Kennestone Emergency for pains and it seemed everyone White I was exposed to that day-- the Angry, rude ambulance attendant (however the white female attendant was extra nice and attentive with me)..The Doctors and staff all had racist attitudes they could not contain. I enjoy studying scholars on Sociology, white Supremacy and Race as one of my main hobbies.. I completely understand the context of the subhuman behavior, but I felt myself feeling Sicker being around it. The behaviors of the Staff and Patients impressed me as Mentally disturbed... Every conversation I heard contrasted the colors Black and White; derogatory remarks were made about a PR girlfriend, Koreans, Obama etc. Unfortunately, I had to listen to a 60 year old dirtbag and his granddaughter for nearly 2 hours, while trying to fall asleep..and the first word that came out of his mouth was NI@@@RS. The Doctors spoke AT me so fast and incoherent they could have just handed me my discharge papers..I was rudely interrupted when I tried to explain my symptoms or answer interrogations...they simply wanted to CONFUSE me. However, when the fat white nurses and Dr spoke with the racist neighbor...they made certain to have an interactive conversation and they allowed him to belly ache without interruption. there were coded dialogue from a fat white nurse to let the Racist know she too was a Confederate Obama hater. The place was littered with armed security guards and cops..It felt like a security camp- I didn't feel safe. As I was leaving the emergency room trying to find a phone to call Family. A weapon carrying, Dirtbag approached me in a provoking bark "Where can I help you Get" he decided to leave BOY off...I had IV's and bandages all over me; dressed business casual and he's approaching me in a Tone as if I'm an inmate wondering off the Chain Gang AKA Plantation. My memories of Kennestone as a kid when I didn't know any better, people appeared gracious, hospitable and professional...now its turned into some Subterranean Hillbilly Ghetto.

  32. I have had several problems with Kennestone Hospital and the whole wellstar system. The first two problems were with my 85 year old mother whom I help care for. In the last 3 months we have been to the hospital for two emergencies with my mother. The last time they misdiagnosed her 4 broken ribs from a fall. We waited 4 hours for treatment and another 2 for xray results. They came out and told us she did not have any broken bones and her ribs were fine. I took her home where she suffered terribly and continued to get worse. Less than 24 hours later I took her to St. Joseph's hospital where she was diagnosed with 4 broken ribs. Several months before this she broke her arm. We waited 8 hours. At one point I told them that she could not take the pain nor sit on the hard chairs any more. They took her back for a quick evaluation. The nursing assistant that saw her informed me that her arm did not appear to be broken. I am an RN and I could see that her hand was hanging off sideways. I told him it was. They sent us back out where we waited another two hours for a total of 8. My most recent problem is with the whole health care system of Wellstar. They try to get you to use only their facilities for needed tests and the cost is outrageous. I currently need a test and am trying to do it outside of Wellstar. They are fighting me on it. They don't respond to my calls nor will they coordinate with the testing facility or respond to the insurance company. The nurse for my doctor said that she could not guarantee that they would make it easy for me to go ro this outside clinic. She was afraid to tell the truth which was they were not going to cooperate at all. It has been over a month and they still have not talked to anyone involved with doing this test at another facility. My pre blood work has ran out and now I will have to pay again. This test is for a aneurysm that I have on my aorta that has to be checked periodically. This is a dangerous condition which could be fatal if the aneurysm changes. I feel that they are playing with my life. I told my husband that if I drop dead from a rupture to sue the hell out of them. I am now looking in to other ways to file a complaint with the whole Wellstar System. Last year the same thing happened but instead of ignoring me they told me they can not refer me out of their system. Turned out that is totally illegal. It is my understanding that they tell other people this too. They have to be stopped.

  33. It's a shame this place exist with the Feds having a office in Atlanta. I went there one day and saw nothing but police and security guards. They had some guy sitting in a room with a sitter outside and two women in there with him, he was trying to get dismissed after being there 2 days and them not giving him as much as a aspirin. A lady comes down from upstairs not dressed as a nurse, doctor, or patient and says to another lady that hes about to make a big deal of this isn't he. It got me to thinking what did the guy see or know that he could make a big deal of and why did she care if he didn't have a legit gripe. So, instead of releasing the guy they transfer him to a behavorial health center.

This place should not exist. They are all about power. These are people who will do anything that they think they can get away with and they are getting away with murder and rampant fraud.

  34. Wellstar is a not-for-profit organization. I don't think it's all about the money. Nurses SHOULD all be BSN RNs. There should be consistencies among the profession. And the biggest problem we face is that NOBODY has insurance!! The fact that the hospital does not get reimbursed for the majority of services it provides, leads to all of these problems people are so vehemently blogging about. Not to mention people are using the emergency department as an urgent care clinic and as a primary care center. GET HEALTHCARE INSURANCE AND USE COMMUNITY RESOURCES APPROPRATELY!!!

When we next talked to them they informed us that the Dr. "didn't remember". I told them I was pretty sure that this type of information was written down someplace......like they gave me a picture of the actual stents in the coronary arteries but didn't keep one for the file? Really?

  35. That whole not for profit mess is just for stupid people. These people are not working for free. They bill you after servicing you. The nurses and doctors in the ER are all incompetent. They are also liars who lie and exaggerate on your medical records. The whole talk about using community resources appropriately is just ignorant talk. People with medicare and other government freebies go to the ER for anything and they are happy to see them, do nothing, send the home and get paid.

Wellstar should not even exist by now another man accused of sexual assault at a Wellstar location. Maybe if they started taking preventive measures this stuff would stop happening, but they are too busy getting there dose of power and control to ever notice this stuff.

  36. Terrible, terrible, terrible!!! My wife was discharged while her pulse was still consistently dropping below 50. It had been dropping below 40 on several occasions over the last 2.5 days. We spent 10 hours in the emergency room after coming in via ambulance. She collapsed while visiting a friend at a local nursing home. The emergency room doctor and staff were attentive and the doctor took time to explain what was going on. But, after being admitted and when we got upstairs, a neurologist came in. He asked my wife, who was in extreme pain from a migraine and very weak due to her pulse, why he was even referred. When we were transferred up to her room from the ER, she had already been admitted two hours before and told then that she would get pain medication for her migraine. I had to go find her nurse after 10 minutes in the room. We had not even seen him yet. He told us that he could not give her any medication because it had not put in her profile yet. She is in extreme pain by this time and they would not let her take her own medication. I finally had to go ask to speak to a hospital administrator before a head nurse expedited getting her pain medication.

We were told that she was being transferred to a new room because the new section was better prepared for cardiac patients. Same thing happened after she was transferred to the new room. She was sobbing in pain while being transferred from one room to another. Then after three hours of extreme pain, the new nurse still cannot give here any medication because it had not been added to per profile. This is the same medication that she had already received in the other room. This time I go to the nursing station and ask for a doctor or administrator. I tell them that she has been in extreme pain for three hours and she WILL get medication or I will take her out of there to some place that will. They suddenly were able to give it to her.

To top it all off, she was discharged without having any kind of summary consultation with a doctor. We still don’t have a clue about why she collapsed or why her pulse rate was so low. We were told that the two EKGs they did were “slightly” abnormal but that they had no history to really compare them to. We told them that her primary care doctor had recent EKGs. They never attempted to get those or even contact him. The discharging nurse said that her pulse rate could be normal for her. We told here that we called the primary care doctor, and the last three pulse rate readings were 59, 60, and 61. She just shrugged her shoulders.

I could go into more, but I think I hit the high points. Bottom line is, if we can help it, we will never use Kennestone or Wellstar again.

I assumed she had simply had a long night or double shift, but I constantly run into her in the city and she glorifies the fact that she is ALWAYS drunk. This is when I suspected she was likely drunk on the job. I will never take a loved one there. Use your bar life to be drunk, not an ICU of a major medical facility.

When I dug into the situation, turns out Wellstar made a clerical mistake and entered in the wrong city. I tried calling Wellstar to find out why they didn't have the common courtesy to pick up the phone (they have multiple ways to contact me) and could never get anyone to help me. When I log on to Wellstar "my chart." I can see all the charges incurred, it does not show the date or the amount of any payments. Their accounting system sucks. Beside that their cardiac diagnostic center (located down the hall) somehow confused me with another patient. Only when the "nurse" started asking me about medications I was taking, did I realize that I was not the patient she thought I was. Was pushed to the CAT Scan room, spent more time getting something for my neck support. (A towel) The scan was to be of my head. I was not even in the unit, never heard anyone say the usual, "Ok, hold very still we are about to begin." Next thing the green light came on, I looked up and back at the green light. Then the thing turns off. The same young female that pushed me in there came up to put me back on ER bed. I told her the CAT Scan did not operate correctly, nor was my head inside. She just replied, "It only takes a second." Really??? Almost $4,000. for a fake CT Scan???? Then the doctor comes into my curtained dirty room and wants to do a Spinal Tap. Heck No!!!! When I left my blood vials were still on the tray next to the phone.....almost 5hrs later. (Took a picture with my phone.)

  45. In Dec 2012 I went in for a routine Hysterectomy (to be performed by a well known, chief of surgery at kennestone ) at the very beginning of my surgery Dr Tackett (who braggs about teaching this procedure to interns) inserted the Trocar to far and cut my Aorta. I spent a month in the hospital undergoing additional emergency surgery to remove 6.5 in of my intestines that were also cut at initial incision but not repaired before closing the now hip Bone to hip bone incision. Since then I have had two more surgeries and require atleast one more. During my long recovery Dr Tackett told me "this will not ruin you financially, I am important in this hospital and this was my fault. I will take care of everything, you are family to me now. 2 years later when we discovered he was just giving us 'lip service' and went to a lawyer we realized Tackett had actually "edited" (changed) my records and they no longer stated torn/cut/sliced Aorta. I had to PROVE the man did this and even when I did that to the attorneys it didnt matter (time was almost up at this point) because THE COURT BELIEVES WHAT IS PUT IN MEDICAL RECORDS - even if they were flat out lies like - stated he made my incision 1 or 2 inches ABOVE my naval. I can whip my shirt up to this day and prove that wrong .... but to a judge, they believe what is written. And Tackett used anything he could to dance around his error. To this day I am required to be monitored for the outpouching in my Aorta but the insurance companies continue to question paying bills for a disability there is no medical paper trail of. I was 44 when this happened and lost my job from month long hospital stays. I was told this WOULD NOT FINANCIALLY RUIN ME BECAUSE I WAS NOW PART OF HIS FAMILY! $600,000.00 Later nothing from him or Kennestone except constant collection calls day and night. Wellstar as a system is corrupt. The corruption starts at the head and then trickles down through the body and into the seeds.
They push a four year degree in nursing so hard but do not require any substance other than a certificate. These nurses are getting their degrees at some half as s school in Alabama that charges a fraction of what in state education costs.(that raises a few alarms)
If the if they go there they end up being the worst to deal with. If they went to the any reputable school then they worked hard for it and typically are great. unfortunately the majority went to Alabama or an online deal that wellstar has worked out.
Now with that being said, I have Wealthstar insurance, they are letting me die a slow and horrible death. I can't go to any one but their doctors and guess what!? They do nothing. I have a neuromuscular disease that is still unidentified but we know it's there because it is killing my lungs along with extensive emphysema and what may be cancer, but we are waiting to see about that one, after two years.
Luckily my family are some of the good ones that work for Wealthstar. They cry because of their coworkers almost daily. they feel like they are fighting a losing battle.

    1. What an ignorant comment. You (and your family) apparently have some axe to grind. I personally went to a "half as s school in Alabama" and I work ICU at Kennestone...strangely (I guess at least to you) I am considered one of their better nurses. I consistently train and orient new nurses...not sure how they would let someone who is "worst to deal with" and didn't go to a "reputable school" teach new nurses how to do things...perhaps you'll just blame that on "corrupt Hellstar" as well.

Honestly, some of the GREENest and hardest to teach nurses I find are from the most "reputable" school in Georgia...Emory. They have such a haughty attitude about where they graduated from, you can't tell them anything...and they are honestly quite dangerous because of this. A lot of them are "book-smart" but horrible in the practical/clinical setting and take 30% to 50% longer to orient on average.

Nevertheless, your ignorance on this topic is perfect for some forum like this. Making anecdotal generalizations...just like the vast majority of the comments here. Thousands of patients come through the doors of Wellstar facilities with nothing but great outcomes. Just as there are plenty of nurses that went to "some half as s school in Alabama" that are damn fine nurses.

The 1 or 2 your "family" work with might be bad for all I know...just like a few I have worked with from other state's schools (Georgia, New York, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, California, ect.) that are not all that great. What someone pays for school makes no difference, we all pass the same "boards" nationwide. The education is about 40% of what makes a nurse, what someone puts in to learn after school is what makes them a good nurse.

I used to travel nurse, I worked at several hospitals nationwide. I can honestly tell you Kennestone is a solid facility overall. And for the record, for all the people who keep saying "take me to Piedmont" don't make me laugh...I've worked there, that place is horrible for nurses, patient ratios for nurses there are borderline dangerous...consistently 3:1 in the ICUs (red and blue) with SICK, SICK patients, which is why they offer upwards of $20,000 sign-on to get nurses and their ICUs are filled with travelers...so yeah, go ahead and take your family there...and then start another forum about that place.

There is one thing we can agree on though...Wellstar's employee insurance does suck (Piedmont/Wellstar joint program). The worst health insurance I've ever had, bar-none. I hope this new insurance they are going to for 2016 will be better.

    2. Just wanted to add, perhaps the dozen or so Emory new-grads I have worked with have been a bad batch...I wouldn't want to create a double-standard with my own anecdotal evidence.

  50. We miss our mom. She was seen by our doctor and sent to the emg room that she might have a stroke coming, sent to the emg room, waiting 12 hours later, hmmm nope we don't see it, opps she stopped breathing, hmm lets rip her lungs real good, opps yep your doctor was right , they did nothing and she died a few days later. Darn we are so sorry, she showed no sign of a stroke. Bunch of stupid people and doctors! Unless you have a ton of money to make them pay, you have zero chance of making it right and getting the bad doctors out or remove management from these hospitals.

    1. Kennestone hospital killed my husband Dec 2015,he went to hospital for severe pain in his bottom, by the time I got to er ,they had him on life support and refused to remove it, from there they took him to ice quickly when I started telling them to remove it. That was the last time I saw I'm awake, he was looking at me crying motioning with his right hand that I untied that he wanted that. Out of him. I talked to many different staff members and many meetings but nobody cared, 15 minutes after he passed they told me and my family we had to leave and was escorted all the way by security. So much more to this story, his doctor at Ga. Cancer specialist (affiliated with north side) came out to waiting room the day before he passed to offer his condolences. My husband was murdered. His previous admission (Nov 2015 he fell and busted his head open and broke his tail bone but of course they said nothing had changed. This was due to there negligence.if anyone knows who I can complain to or sue everyone involved please let me know.

I was even taken to Kennestone againt my wishes. You go there, you'll be luckey to leave in fair shape or dead. LK

  55. WellStar Spalding Regional is so slow about being active for their patient and employees. The nurses are very rude also the helper. This is a uncomfortable place of bussiness for employees and patients. WellStar you purchase Spalding Regional but slow process making people leave unless you all are bringing your own people in which would be unfair to those who really like what they are doing. THANKS

  56. My husband was a patient at Ortho Sport in Kennesaw and the supervisor of the clinic took it a little to far. She recently had gotten a divorce and thought it was a great idea to hit on my husband. Yes this was my husbands fault as well however he was a patient and her relationship with him was VERY unprofessional. I complained to her supervisor and on up but nothing was done. The entire staff knew about this and still does but Well star being like they are didn't care about me or my complaints and lets this continue. I am sure she has gotten her claws in others as well. If your looking for more than just PT go to the Ortho Sport on Due West in Kennesaw, ask for the supervisor, she is more than willing to help you ....

  57. Seems times have changed and the tides have turned- Wellstar ALLOWS reverse discrimination. Plain and simple. Try working there if you are Caucasian in a mostly African American division. I know they are called DEPARTMENTS- but division is much more suitable these days. I am shocked that an ASSAULT was allowed to happen WITH WITNESSES and no one was reprimanded. Someone I know was assaulted ON THE JOB and when another employee came to her aid- (during the assault) she was told to stand down. To butt out. (It isn't 8th grade) Management is completely INCOMPETENT. I am shocked that Ms. Bonnie would ALLOW this behavior. Company moral is fading unless you are with the IN CROWD. (8th grade?- YES! WOW! I am disgusted with this situation. Take it to HR, they say- they will hear your grievance, they say. Well not so much- Corruption all the way from the top! Since the management change, it's as if there is no chance for loyal hard working employees to survive in such a TOXIC ENVIRONMENT- We would NEVER recommend them for HEALTH CARE OR EMPLOYMENT. PS. My Mom worked there for 30 years and retired. We are so thankful she is out of there BEFORE these things worsened. But these days you can only be racist if you are white. Appears to be... The new standard. Another PS. Our family is not racist- We have family members from Indonesia, The Phillipines, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Vietnam, Cambodia, Holland, France--- Burundi (Africa), South Africa and Australia- one from Mexico and one from Canada- So screw all of you who say I am or we are. What is going on at Wellstar is horrible.

  59. Some of the comments have been uncalled for and very mean... so I’ve been reluctant to post... but people have to know. Wellstar Kennestone killed my son! This has to do with Sepsis and the thousands of cases shown on their mortality lists. He had been in ICU due to their own mistake of not even checking his previous medical records before giving him a drug that nearly killed him. They left him on those inhumane respiratory tubes in an induced coma longer than they should have... a total of 21 days... which should have been 14, but after letting him gain 42 pounds of fluid and see his skin just ripping everywhere, they put him on a lasix drip. He was able to come off the respirator then and was doing fine until they left him on it 8 hours too long... admitting their mistake, this caused his electrolytes to be so off that he was mentally unbalanced. He could no longer remember how to breathe! He was begging someone to help him when they threatened to put him back on the tubes! He was so scared when I came in that he asked me to hold on to his hand and to never let go. Then he begged them not to put him back on the respirator and even asked him if he wanted it and he said no... but they convinced his next of kin from hell that they needed him back on the respirator in order to fix their mistake. She agreed. I was going to sit with him and help him breathe once things calmed down... but they insisted the only way to fix his electrolytes was to sedate him and put him back on the tubes, and the three of them (nurse, wife and mother-in-law) allowed this against his will and mine... then his wife's mother has to make the comment that her daughter knew more what was best for him than I did... Right... like I took that lightly… the next thing I knew I was banned from the hospital for arguing with her. Not even his father could call in to see how he was without a password. He got worse. Then the next thing I know I am "allowed" back in to see my son because he had gotten so much worse and they were going to discuss what to do if he had to be on a respirator the rest of his life. He would need 24-hour care. Okay. I can do that. He still had his full apartment in our basement in Michigan and we had an extra room if he needed a care provider. He was only in GA for chiropractic college. He had just turned 27 in ICU and "they"... the daughter and mother-in-law from hell decided they would turn his life support off!!! What? I had no say at all in this? I was his mother for God's sake! You don't kill someone just because they are going to be on a respirator... which I never believed for a second would be for life!!! But in that hospital... they let the next of kin do anything they want to... including kill their husbands just because they are angry with them!!! I was frantic and my hands were tied. Luckily his first responder nurse was on duty that night, and the wife blackmailed me that she would have me banned again so I had visiting hours she posted that I was trying to obide by and I could not be there at night... when he needed me the most… but I had just five more minutes with him and I told the night nurse what they planned to do. He couldn't believe it either! He told me he knew of a lot of people that got off the respirator with therapy. Why would they even be suggesting turning off his life support? So he got the NP in charge and they turned off his sedation long enough to ask him if he wanted to live. When they turned off the sedation, he didn't seem to be in any pain, but he was looking very confused when they asked him to squeeze his had three times if he wants to live. Wow. He did what they asked twice. Then shrugged and motioned to know what was going on and we told him. I will never forget the sight of watching his chest with those horrible inhumane tubes as he cried. 1. This was the love of his life making poor decisions... and she was an RN for God's sake!!! Anyway... it was nearing 21 days on the ventilator now... I practically begged them to give him a tracheotomy but they wouldn't unless SHE ordered it. I told him that he had to fight like hell so we could get him out of there. He had the look of determination like I have never seen. Two days later he was doing better. They were FINALLY going to trach him as soon as his blood wasn't so thin... He must have had a 100 blood transfusions... but his liver and kidneys started miraculously healing as he fought the great fight. When he did get the new track, two days later he was moved out of ICU after being in there 47 days! Now he was in IMCU. A step up, but from the looks of it, it was nasty dirty. Trash not empty, empty files and pill cups laying around. The floor was filthy... he was lucky to see the nurse one time per shift and the main line in his neck was bandaged and not changed or checked the whole time he was there until the day he started failing rapidly again. He had just finished his swallow test and was going to get to have real food and juice... he begged for ice chips and most of the time wouldn't give him any. I remember they promised him some before they sedated him and intubated him against his and my will... they promised then didn't bother. This time he was doing so well he even recorded a video thanking everyone for their prayers with his new talking cap on his trach. He also had a power of attorney signed so I could make his medical decisions from there on out. The two witnesses watching him sign had just left and he started getting very weak, fast! I tried to get someone in to help him and it took hours. Then when they did, they ordered an ultrasound and he was bleeding in his stomach. His kidneys had shut down and he was dying of septic shock! One organ at a time, he was dying! They moved him to CCU to a corner room with an all glass front right at the nurse's station and away from other rooms. He lived long enough for me to get his second opinion from a doctor out of their hospital. Meanwhile I was being accused by one doctor of being cruel... and SHE kept coming in and saying she knew my son better than I did... and all I know is that he said in his last wishes that he did not want to be taken off life support and he wanted everything possible done to save his life. I thought that is what they were doing. But I heard the doctor ask the nurse what she gave him for sedation and she mentioned two pain killers and the Doctor said; "Oh I wouldn't have done that." and five minutes later he was coding!!! I have no idea what they were doing to him. This all started from alcohol and acetaminophen poisoning! He came in for dehydration and the next thing we knew he was dead!! And the terrible thing is that the chaplain told me as I was picking up the last of his things, that he had never seen anyone come out of that room alive!!! That hospital has SO MANY Sepsis cases that they even provide a special dying room???

  60. I went to the ER at Douglas WellStar with severe pain that I figured was recurring kidney stones. It's a constant problem that stems from Lupus, diagnosed 15 years ago. The doctor in the ER ordered a ton of tests, sure, and confirmed the kidney stones. But when NAIL POLISH interfered with checking my vitals, he turned off the machine instead of removing the polish as they have other times. It was nearly 11pm and I threw up medication I had taken more than 6 hrs prior. Clearly, that's a problem. My husband showed the doctor. I was given a shot of Dilaudid & sent home. Through the night, my husband held onto me because I had to hang over the side of the bed, throwing up constantly, sleeping only because of exhaustion. Near 7am, he asked if I was any better, and when I looked at him, he shook his head and told me we were going to the ER. Throwing up so much, the blood vessels busted in my eyes & the white was now red. By then, I couldn't remember things I had known for years & was delirious. I had gone into renal failure, a complete system shutdown. My temperature shot to 104, and it was (according to a different doctor) a miracle I survived. Had my husband waited only minutes more, I would have been dead. When he told her we were sent home, and the things the doctor did the previous night, she was speechless.
Another time at Douglas WellStar, the only vein they could use was in my neck. I was sent to ICU, and when they moved me to the bed there, one of the nurses jerked the sheet from under me like I was a place setting & she was doing a magic trick. The IV ripped out of my neck, and even while I was fading in and out, I remember enough to recognize someone clearly under the influence of some type of speed. Agressive, jerky, fast movements. Not hard to spot.
My last stay however, my birthday was day 3 of 10. The food service staff sent a card with my lunch, signed by them & a couple nurses. Even one from the previous day who was off on my birthday. A premeditated act of kindness. While my husband had to work & there were days he couldn't be there, there were quite a few nurses that were very kind, and indulged my need for short discussion. I'm sorry if that delayed responses to other patients. These nurses were great care givers and understood that it's more than meds and tests that help to heal.
On the flipside, I intentionally declined my midnight pain meds in an attempt to see if I progressed enough to go home soon. Two hours later, the pain was intolerable. When I requested the shot, the nurse said it was too soon. That I had to wait another 2 hours, as though I had it at midnight. I began writing down times, who came to my room, and what happened. Made sure they all saw the records as well. The nighttime nurse was a lot more careful after that.
Currently, I am being treated for open wounds, thanks to lymphedema that could have been prevented with procedures years ago. Procedures I was never told about by my Hellstar hematologist. My rheumatologist is shocked over my records before I transferred to him. I have been to the ER twice since the beginning of the year, and the last time, they said they could admit me, but I would miss a pointless vascular study the wound doctor wanted because they don't have vascular at Douglas WellStar. The vascular surgeon is literally on the next street, and it was a WellStar Hospital where I was first seen by them! This makes no sense!
But all of my doctors, at one point or another have been visibly irritated when I saw them. And they all have said things to the effect that they are frustrated with the demand from business men they report to. That they can't even provide the time and attention they want to give their patients.
Despite the kind nurses, food staff, and few good doctors, I hate WellStar. More bad than good. And it seems like it's taking over. There's no escaping them.

    1. You are right. I was treated just like your whrtein "one of the nurses jerked the sheet from under you like you were a place setting & she was doing a magic trick"....only I was told by a very young "helper" after a CT procedure, that "she couldn't wait for me to wake up (and get off the CT table)...where-upon she rolled me off holding the table pad, from my stomach and onto my back on a hard surface! I just had cement dr's at Kennestone didnt advise me of fully, allegedly pumping cement inbetween my spine at L1 & L2 vertebrae. I believe that before said cement was set, or perhaps improperly infused, I could barely walk afterwards. No issue before! I presented with transverse myelitis, not a broken spine. They claimed I had a kidney stone removed. THAT WAS A RIDICULOUS LIE! No stent was ever apparent...nothing was taped from my ureter onto my thigh, muckless removed after 3 days. I am now charged with procedures I never needed, not to mention CT scans...2 in 2 days, of my neck! Why? I was drugged and did not give consent to these procedures...how could I? Go to 99% of a Hellstar/Wealthstone facility (yes - they have merged with close to 300 hospitals here), and you will be screwed, tatooed, over-medicated and over- tested and over-charged. A stay at GITMO is more welcome by me. Our law makers should have to deal with every complaint listed on this site. Good luck. LK

  63. Lost Without My Mom December 9th, 2016 at 1:31 a.m.
Wellstar (HELLSTAR) admitted my Mother after a fall. She hit her head pretty bad. I followed the ambulance from her Living Facility to Hellstar Douglasville. We were told to stay in the waiting room. About an hour goes by and I'm called back to see her. X-rays, cat scan, blood, urine, etc. they did. Five hours past my Mother finally got a room on 3 south. I kiss my Mom and I tell her I will see you later that day with personal items. 6:00a.m. got to see the sun rise. The next few days felt like a dream. I stayed with her as much as I can. I knew they were short on nurses. I helped feed, clean and do anything to keep my Mom comfortable. Doctors had to put a central line in at her neck. She started to scratch at the tape holding the line in. The doctors decided to sedate her, with morphine and something stronger. As I left that night I thought she would sleep the night away. NO, I received a phone call from the hospital around 2:00 a.m. stating my Mom just pulled out her I.V. and her central line from her neck. Your Mother is still alive she lost a lot of blood and we need your consent to give her blood. I said yes of course. The next morning when I got to her she was not herself. The first thing I noticed while brushing my Mom's hair was her Wedding Rings on her left hand and one ring on her right hand was gone. There was no way they could have been slipped off. After 64 years of Marriage never took off her rings and now they are gone. I called security what a waste of time that was. Nobody ever came to see me while my Mom had to go for surgery for a chest cath to be placed. My Mom told me "this is my last day on earth." This sentence was the only thing that made sense. I told my Mom that she has many more day's with us. I kissed her and they took her off to surgery. I was told to wait in the waiting area until they come to get me. So I did just that. An hour goes by and the doctor touches my shoulder and says, we lost your Mom on the table, her heart stopped and she's in ICU with a breathing tube. This is something my Mother wounld never have wanted ever! I had to bring my Dad up to see my Mom before she does pass he gets to say goodbye and that is when he held her hand and he asked about their Wedding Bands. My Daddy suffered a stroke and had to live away from eachother for 11 months. That was the hardest thing I ever had to tell my Daddy'o. How I never thought about taking them off right from the EMS and the ER room. So I was told that they had a investigation and they talked to all the nurses and they found nothing. I know of one nurse's who stepped up and said "yes I remember them". Two days later my Mother went to heaven. I called in a Detective I hope he can help. The worst part about all of this we read her Will and these rings are the only thing she had to give to her daughter's. Carma does come around, it's also called a gypsy curse. I have a theory whom ever washed my Mother down after she pulled out her line might be someone we should look into. Mom I'm trying to fulfill your wishes the best that I know how. I am sad and my heart breaks every night. I love you Mom Forever and Always.
If anybody can give me some advise I would greatly appreciate it. My tears will never stop because I knew better.

I went to my OB/GYN MD on Monday,June 05,2017.I have depression afterI gave birth to my twin on April 2017,I was talking to her about how I feel than schedule told me to go to the kenestone ED ,she said:I already talked to them just go there give your name somebody gonna talk to you for couple hours, every women after giving birth have that problem.
When I get there I was kidnapped in the ED for 1 day than transfer to the Cobb hospital for 3 days, they kept me in hostage. When I told those nurses in the kenestone ED I need to go home one of them told me I can't go, she wanted to give me some drug injection cause I called my boyfriend and told him what's going on, when he got there she took the phone away from me and told him I didn't want to see anybody than that white bitch called the security, she closed me inside the restroom, those too men holding me so she can give me some drug. I told her she's not a law to give me anything cause I didn't sign any paper. She told me I'm black I have no right, in the state of Georgia.
If I have to die, only kenestone can save my life I prefer to die 7×77×7 than go to that racism place. They're not there to save people life, they're there to discriminate black people. (JESSICA TOUSSAINT )

  66. I’m reading some of the prior complaints and I’m feeling sick and a little hopeless.
My father was admitted to this hospital October 6th for stroke and he is currently admitted. My complaint is very simple....They lie at every turn.
AND...what I also discovered is the doctors routinely did no labs or imaging. They somehow utilize this Wait and see approach on everything. This is key because it allows the hospital to save money and the doctors not to be accountable for anything. Because they can’t treat what hasn’t been diagnosed,
So back to my father, their current victim. He was placed on a Heparin gtt. The doctors gave this last ditch appeal to the family saying that this may kill hm, but it’s his only option. He also stated that they will monitor the gtt closely.
Well they took 2 blood draws...normal. Then they waited 29 hours before drawing the next PTT ( blood clotting time) and it had literally tripled causing my father to have another stroke but this time a hemorrhagic stroke- bleed in the brain.
When I confronted the nurse manger, she lied saying the blood draw was erroneous. Not true... And the neurologists refused to work in my opinion. Their only goal is flipping those beds.
What I can say is so much has occurred that my only advice to those individuals in the hospital is run out. Don’t walk but run...
He now has a rare infection in the blood that i literally had to beg the doctors to order a blood culture. It’ is unbelievable!

  67. This screw up of a so called hospital misdiagnosed and treated me for something I didn't even have. They also flagged my chart as narcotic dependency because my illnesses had been treated previously with certain medications. Then tried to blow smoke up my ass with a lame excuse or explanation. I told them to take that off my chart immediately! I don't have an addictive personality and never have! The only thing I can't live without are my support animals and thank God for them. They didn't even treat me for what I was sent up there for by my agent at the SSD office. These people are abusing medical privileges and are only in it for the check! They don't care about people. This entire organization needs to be investigated thoroughly. If enough people would stomp their feet and make all their complaints known, some justice could happen. I will never have anything to do with Wellstar or any of their associates.

  69. I finlly found out what Kennestone does with payments after paying the same payment 6 times, if you have a old bill with them the apply any and all payment to that bill untill paid off. They also bill inhospital doctors as out patient for larger pay, I recently had a out patient opperation, they billed medicare from date of covid test till date of suegery as inpatient stay, so watch your bills.
